Elsewhere, again is the first of six appointments of SOLAR LOTTERY, a series inspired by the randomization processes displayed in the book of the same name written by Philippe Dick.
Here the role of characters in the society is determined by algorithms and a computerized random lottery as a form of control that circumvents pre-determined social privileges.
Following this principle for the whole series, the selection of artists from Peninsula has been randomly determined and then, in turn, they invited an external artist themselves.

In 500 Unreachable Islands Patrick Tabarelli creates a metaphorical video journal of imaginative places. Tabarelli collected pictures of the biggest islands on Earth from inhabitants, travelers, researchers; he then wrote a software which re-elaborated those pictures into an dreamlike resolution, producing imaginative places. The book and the print presented in the exhibition, alongside the video, tie together the artist’s research of combining the analog element of natural life with the digital synthetic life of both video and software.
Using the medium of photography, which typically has navigated a similar path from analog to digital, Fiorentino De Martino subtly depicted urban wastelands in the Middle East: precisely in East Jerusalem and in northern Tel Aviv. Both urban spaces show the interaction between nature and humans – in relation with cyclical forces of time – which is not intended to recreate a comparable landscape of beauty or harmony, but to surprise by something unexpected.
The title Elsewhere, again is a reference to both Tabarelli’s and De Martino’s aesthetic sensitivity which elicit questions about lost and found places.
